| Rant! I need to vent. I made a post on facebook to my family and friends. I was trying to get donations of food, toys, or money for food and toys, to make a christmas basket for my daughters family of five. She's not on welfare, she has a job and goes to work every day. She strugggles to keep her bills paid and food in the kids tummies. Still, according to the government charts she is living more than 150% below poverty level. I just thought it would be nice for her and her family to have at least some kind of Christmas. I can't do it all by myself. So I asked friends and family for help. The only person who offered to help is my sister. It just bums me out. I thought people, especially close friends and family, would jump at the chance to help a family they knew by donating something. I was wrong! I have to tell you, I am totally BAH HUMBUG now! I have lost my faith in people. Ok done ranting, thanks for listening!

| I appreeciate your advice. It was just easier for me to make one post instead of a myriad of phone calls and emails. My facebook is set to very private. The only people who can see it is family and friends. And I only have maybe 7-10 friends on there.

| thats disappointing, sorry to hear that. i know that the economy is rough and many people feel the strain at christmas time for their own families. maybe make some suggestions to donate (example: $5.00 gift card from walmart or turkey needed etc) so friends and family will know that any donation would be appreciated, no matter how small.

| I know your just looking to vent & not have strangers "fix" the issue, but does your daughter live in an area with an active Salvation Army or other charitable organization that does food baskets or toys for the kids? |

| It is getting tougher for everybody, even those with good jobs. I get requests all the time on Facebook for donations from all my family and friends asking for donations for the latest charity they are supporting, or even hints that they can't pay bills and nobody is helping them. I finally just have to ignore all the requests. How much time did you give them? Maybe they are waiting until they get paid next, or to see what their Christmas budget is. Maybe they might surprise you, and give your daughter something else. There are also times when I totally miss posts on facebook, and don't see it for at least a couple weeks. I would not take any of it personally.

| We are checking into those options also but I think she only had till the 24 of this month to get on the food basket list. Which would have been fine if I had thought of this before that date. I told her to try toys for tots.
