Will It Buzz?

My 11 year old grandaughter spent the night with me last night and was asking if my hip was back like it use to be. I told her pretty much except for the three 5" screws that will always be in there. Told her I wish I had a copy of the x-rays to show her and she suggest looking on the computer for a picture of a "screwed hip". We found one. My hip looks just like this only is my right hip where the picture shows left. Reckon this amount of metal will set off a detecter if I go thru one ?

I have a screw in my pelvic and a rod in my leg and I made it through a court house and a airport with no problem. My husband also has a rod in his leg and it did go off at the court house. Not sure if it was the rod or not but he couldn't find anything on him that would make it go off.

If you're concerned you can get a note from your doctor. My sister has a rod in her back and carried a letter when traveling through airports.

I have a manmade hip, and it does set off the detector at both courthouses and airports. They weren't interested in my doctors note, either . So I always allow extra time because I know I'll be given an extra once over.

My dad has pins in his knee and he never sets off the metal detectors.

I wonder if it depends on what they things are made of! My sister badly broke her ankle and bones in her foot a few years ago and has plates, screws, etc in both. But she has not flown since slipping. I didn't think about it til now. Maybe I shoudl ask her if she has had any problem anywher up ther ein NC.
